How do we go about with COVID-19 Prevention? CA state of public health emergency has already been declared in several countries that are affected by the novel Coronavirus. There are also confirmed cases of Covid-19 in areas that have no history or traces of having the virus transmitted to them by an infected person. As a result, it raised an alarm for the people in their nearby communities. 

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that can infect both animals and people. They can cause illness of the respiratory tract. The new virus has been named SARS-CoV-2 and the disease is called Covid-19. The World Health Organization said that this is the first pandemic that Coronavirus has caused. In addition, they also gave a precaution about using the term. The reason is that it might trigger “unreasonable” fear or unjustified acceptance that the fight is over.” Instead, we could engage in a comprehensive strategy to prevent infections and minimize the impact. It can be done through prevention, preparedness, public health, and political leadership.

We are all in this together. Therefore, it is a call to each and everyone to be a responsible fellow person. Do not panic-buy masks and sanitizers. In order to avoid the spread, we need to make sure everyone is also protected. A standard hygiene protocol should be observed. It should apply to every household, workplace, school, institution, and other places where people usually congregate.

Steps in COVID-19 prevention

  • Regular hand-washing
  • Covering the mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing,
  • Thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. 
  • If possible avoid traveling in long distances and in areas with positive Covid-19 patients.

There is still no cure for this disease and our first line of defense is our immune system. Thus, it is advisable to boost your immune system by having enough sleep and eating a balanced diet. Some also say that a healthy person can fight off the virus but the danger is in being the carrier. In that case, it is imperative to avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing. COVID-19 prevention starts with you being vigilant in your efforts to avoid its spread.

In this time of crisis, we need innovation and resilience to continue with important social aspects. This is especially true in the workplace and in the academe. Some might’ve implemented the “work from home” scheme and others improvised into online classes through Google classrooms.
