Google Goats: Replacing Machines with Animals

google goats: replacing machines with animals

Google pioneers in new technology and product development that we can almost consider beyond our wildest dreams. Their innovative ideas them apart, even when it comes to their environmental actions such as reducing their carbon emissions. Here come Google goats to the rescue.

You might think of cool inventions, like something Stark industries would present in their Expo but think again. If you put innovation in a box labeled “only new stuff here”, would you ever think of things that have already been around since people started domesticating animals?

I don’t think so.

As one of the ways to reduce their carbon footprint, Google hired 200 goats to eliminate invasive weeds, restore native grasses, and address fire prevention by cutting the use of fuel. They’re called Google Goats.

This eco-friendly approach replaced noisy lawnmowers that use gasoline (reduced noise and air pollution). Aside from that, goats can get to places where a mower can’t. These animals have nimble little hooves, allowing them to accept the challenge of steepest slopes.

Why does it have to be Google goats?

Yes, there are other grass-eating (herbivores) such as cows and horses but these are the grazers. Goats are browsers, they’re not picky eaters. If you need an animal that will take a chance on an unusual looking plant, goats will do. Their guts can tolerate a wide variety of plant species but keep out on the poisonous ones.

Since these goats can “eat anything” they can denude even the areas where bushes are wildly growing and the grass is everywhere. Thick bushes can attract wildlife which can be a hazard in a work environment. Goats help mitigate this problem by reducing wildlife habitat.
